I think the premise behind my non-linear way of thinking is that the mind space is not enough. I need extra space to lay down my thoughts and ideas in order to connect the dots. I know that our mind remember things in space and something called a "mind palace" will help us remember ideas and abstract concepts. Laying out our thoughts on a piece of paper will help us see the connections. Besides thinking in space, I think our seeing, hearing, touching senses also help us to think: I write down thoughts and ideas by hand or on computers; I speak out my ideas to others; I read my thoughts talk to myself as I think.
I speculate that our brain is able to calculate in a faster rate from the information gathered visually. But I sometimes miss the opportunity to only use one sense. I like watching a movie without sound, listening to music without visual. People also close their eyes when they kiss. I work more efficiently and focused in ideal environments such as libraries. I feel different when I watch movies in the movie theaters. I find multitasking, some videos unsatisfying even if they lay multiple layers of information on top of each other. There is no point when the message is not clear, and that’s when we get bored. The dangerous thing about this phenomenon is that they trick our visual processing power into believing that there is more to it, but in reality, they just tricked us into believing it. When it comes to the field of design, I feel the same way as well. Sometimes the idea in a design is blank and weak, but they would use some realistic treatment and more elements to trick you into believing that there is a lot to the design when in fact that is not true. We could use a blank piece of model and collage colorful figures, plants, trees, geometric shapes to trick people into believing that we made a great design when we only made it look "realistic" and complex. That goes under our aesthetics nowadays.
